    Dear community,

Following our proposal for Fund2 for which we received a lot of support from the community but couldn’t get the funding, we have decided to refine our proposal so that it better fits our needs in the field as well as the needs of the community: adoption in Africa.

To do so, we have reviewed some of our initial objectives, perhaps too ambitious, in order to arrive at a roadmap that is still ambitious but realistically achievable.

You will find below, a short description of the project. More detailed information is available in the attached documents.

The mission of the African Blockchain Center for Developers is to stimulate, thanks to Cardano adoption, the establishment and growth of technology-based start-up companies and other blockchain-enabled businesses.
By fulfilling this mission, ABCD will concretely contribute to:

    – Local job creation
    – Local business development
    – On-boarding to the global Cardano ecosystem
    – Contribute to the rise of blockchain technologies and decentralization in Africa
    – Creation of Smart contracts and decentralized applications (Dapps)
    – Address, thanks to decentralization, some of the most pressing issues in Africa (ID systems, land registration, blood donation, access to property, traceability, etc.)

Together with the Cardano Community and in particular with African entities such as Gimbalabs, WADA, IOG Africa and African SPOs, ABCD will create, develop and provide open source materials for new and emerging technology specializing in the development of core Cardano blockchain technologies and applications. In both the immediate and long terms, ABCD will facilitate enhanced economic health in Africa while promoting an encouraging adoption of Cardano and blockchain technologies throughout the continent.

These achievements will be self-reinforcing: by increasing the successful development of emerging businesses in the Cardano blockchain ecosystem, we will create value and new investment opportunities. By providing training, mentorship, shared space, and professional assistance, we will build a network of experts who will be able to share their expertise with additional developers. By incubating businesses, ABCD will move out into the community and contribute to the overall vitality, diversity, and growth of Cardano in the booming African economy.

ABCD will provide an environment that allows Africans to take an active role in “growing their own” businesses that will lead to job creation. These new businesses and new jobs produced create wealth through multiplier effects that ultimately benefits the overall community beyond the individuals.

The funds we are requesting have been calibrated to ensure minimal operation of the structure for the first cohort of developers while allowing the management team to develop the activity (supervision of trainees, partnerships, collaboration with other projects, delivery of our first Dapps, etc.).

Below is a description of costs and allocation of funds.

    Budget – Monthly costs :
    • Power – (Rental / Fuel / Elect. / Maint.) : 100$
    • Networks – (Rental / Subscription) : 50$
    • Facility – (Rental / Maint.) : 150$
    • Adhoc staff : 1 000$
    • Trainees salary (5 pers.) : 1 000$
    • Insurance : 100$
    • Miscellaneous : 100$
    Total investment costs : 2 500$
    Total for 6 months : 15 000$

  • ADA MakerSpace – DEV lessons

    from:

    Ideascale link

    Problem statement :

Need new training videos for learning how to build with the Marlowe & Plutus playgrounds, some people learn better watching others do things

Describe your solution to the problem

ADA MakerSpace provides free video lessons for anyone interested in learning how to build things that will run on the Cardano blockchain

    Relevant experience

Since AUG192020 our channel has gotten 2,511 views, had Total Watch time of 258.4hours, and gained 225 Subscribers. 258hrs DEV lessons given

    Website/GitHub repository (not required) https://www.youtube.com/c/ADAMakerSpace
Detailed plan (not required) – Fill in here any additional details

Our podcast will test and build ideas with Plutus and Marlowe Playgrounds in an open-source online environment. ADA MakerSpace Podcast Series will help developers and entrepreneurs learn how to build Dapps and businesses on Cardano blockchain while watching others build their ideas. People watching will get real knowledge using the playgrounds and cool opportunities from being involved with our episodes. In addition during the episodes we will build Dapps and Smart Contracts for viewers that have submitted ideas.

Our lessons will be recorded live, and like Bob Ross would say “We don’t make mistakes, just happy little accidents” is our motto, and what we learn from testing things in the Playgrounds will be available for all to see. We will use some of the funding received to create bounties and giveaways for viewers of the podcast to solve errors seen, and for marketing to make sure videos reach a larger audience.

Our lessons would help bring in Haskell developers that have no experience with Plutus and Marlowe and show them how to get started building things on Cardano. Our lessons will also show non-developers how to use Blockly and the Playgrounds and how to think about smart contract design on Cardano without coding knowledge. At ADA MakerSpace Haskell DEVs will get hands-on paid to learn Plutus and Marlowe experiences, and entrepreneurs will get Dapps built that they may have not been able to fund or create by themselves.

ADA MakerSpace will be free to watch and lucky entrepreneurs who are tuning-in and completing bounties can get their ideas built by ADA MarkerSpace DEVs. And those that can afford development can sponsor an episode/s creating funding for the podcast and incubation of ideas built in the Cardano ecosystem.

    TIMELINE AND DELIVERABLES
    2 Lessons a week for 2 months = 16 Episodes
https://adamaker.space/ will house videos, code snippets, and opportunities to take part in a online accelerator for entrepreneurs selected to have their ideas built.
    BUDGET
    $3000 CO-HOST Haskell DEV a month ($375 an Episode) X2 = $6,000
    $3000 CO-HOST Front-end DEV a month ($375 an Episode) X2 = $6,000
    $800 monthly for prizes for viewers X2 = $1,600
$600 monthly advertising videos to reach more DEVs not familiar with Cardano’s tools X2 = $1,200
    Total $14,800
(If awarded SHOW BOUNTIES FUNDING FROM CH we will do for 4 months for a total of 32 Episodes)

    FUNDING REQUIREMENTS

With funding we would spend money on marketing efforts like Google search ADs for when people search for things like “how to build dApps” “how to create smart contracts” will target keyword phrases with and without the words “Cardano, Marlowe, and Plutus” so our ADs are seen by people who are looking to learn how to become a blockchain developer that have knowledge of Cardano and those that don’t. We use similar strategies of paid targeted advertising on social networks as well. In addition to bounties in ADA we offer viewers to share episodes.

Episodes will be free to watch on YouTube, and code created during them will go in to an open-source Github for anyone to use. Time is invested before recording planning episodes, during the recording of, after recording them to prepare them for upload, and share these videos. We are seeking Matching funds from CH Show Bounties Promotion As Seen On YouTube.

    BENEFITS TO CARDANO
Anyone will be able to use these lessons to learn to build on Cardano and get ideas of ways to use and design smart contracts in Marlowe Playground. Plus we will build ideas for our viewers and give ADA prizes for quests seen on the show. You will also be investing in improving the skills of the HOSTs of the podcast who will become some of your most dedicated builders in the ecosystem. And every lesson created will be marketing Cardano 24-7 on YouTube, and teaching others how to create things on Cardano blockchain with the Playgrounds and Blockly.

    Cardano Developer Community portal

    from:

    • Problem statement :

How can we encourage developers and entrepreneurs to build Dapps and businesses on top of Cardano in the next 6 months?

Describe your solution to the problem

A Developer Community portal, to support and build reference material for new and experienced developers entering the Cardano ecosystem

      Relevant experience

Experienced IT professionals – enterprise systems, applications development and solution architecture

Detailed plan (not required) – Fill in here any additional details

This proposal is to establish an online developer community for Cardano to achieve a number of objectives:

      1. Be an initial reference library & knowledge repository for new developers to access useful links and resources related to Cardano, Cardano blockchain technology, and related resources

      2. Provide an active forum to raise relevant questions and support discussion of current and emerging technology being introduced into the Cardano ecosystem

      3. Actively suppprt developers seeking help, advice and suggestions to overcome technical issues / roadblocks from peers and the broader Cardano developer community

      4. Enable developers, technologists and entrepreneurs to share their ideas, showcase their projects and works related to the Cardano ecosystem

      5. Enable entrepreneurs and project teams to advertise and attract Cardano developers or promote new opportunities.

The initial portal will be a proof of concept designed to capture interest, demonstrate potential functionality and build an initial early adopter and developer user base.

      Proposed components:

      1. Reference library and Cardano technical resources

      2. Training and educational resources

      3. Developer community forums and channels

      4. Profile and showcase proposals and projects

      Problem space

The Cardano architecture and ecosystem has been designed and developed to provide a robust, modular and scalable, yet solid foundation for future growth and development. Cardano has followed a robust peer review assurance and release model, and is now emerging as a leading blockchain technology ecosystem for both blockchain and enterprise development.

However, as an emerging ecosystem, it introduces many novel concepts, design approaches and uses the Haskell functional programming language that is not currently widely used or well understood by the broader developer, technology or blockchain communities.

This presents both a challenge and opportunity to build the Cardano developer ecosystem by attracting new and experienced developers, technolgists, early adopters and entrepreneurs into the space.

This proposal seeks to address this by making Cardano resources more accessible, and also providing a curated space for an emerging Cardano developer community to find, discuss and share useful insights to support each other as we build and grow using Cardano.

Prev work: IntelliJ Plugin for Algorand, Aion

      Maintaining BloxBean pool

      Website/GitHub repository (not required) https://www.bloxbean.com/
Detailed plan (not required) – Fill in here any additional details

      Summary

      ———–

IDE is an integral part of day to day activities of a developer. A good IDE helps the developer to iterate faster and become productive. Usually every developer prefers to work inside his/her preferred IDE if possible. A good IDE should help developers to rapidly prototype to test any new technology.

JetBrains IntelliJ is one of the popular IDE used by Java programmers. JetBrains also has other IDEs for language like Go lang (GoLand), Javascript / html (Webstorms). The plugin written by IntelliJ IDE can be easily compatible with other IDEs from JetBrains.

The long term goal of this project is to provide end to end development lifecycle support for Cardano Blockchain using IntelliJ IDE and other compatible JetBrains products. Developers should be able to interact with Cardano blockchain directly from their IntelliJ IDE for transaction submission, Asset creation / transfer, Smart Contract deployment & testing.

The smart contract support is not yet available in Cardano Blockchain, but there are other features in the Cardano blockchain which can be supported in IntelliJ IDE through a plugin.

The current proposal is to create a MVP release for Cardano IntelliJ IDEA plugin which helps developers to become familiar with the Cardano blockchain. This can be done by providing easy access to different features currently supported by Cardano.

The MVP release will provide a good foundation, so that the plugin can be enhanced to support Smart Contract and other advanced features later.

Some of the features which will be supported in this MVP are

      – Configure a remote or local Cardano node in the IDE

      – Start & Stop local Cardano node from the IDE

      – Account Management

      – Create and post transaction from IntelliJ IDE

      – Create transaction with meta data

      – Native token management ( Create, Transfer etc.)

      Supported IDEs

      —————-

The MVP release of this plugin will support the following IDEs.

      – IntelliJ IDEA Community

      – IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate

      – IntelliJ IDEA Education

The support for other JetBrains IDEs is optional in this release.

      Source Code & Licensing

      ————————-

The plugin source will be hosted at https://github.com/bloxbean under MIT license.

The released binaries will be published to JetBrains Official Plugin repository. Developers can install this plugin using IntelliJ’s standard plugin installation steps. Alternatively, the plugin binaries will also be available on GITHub project site.

      Features

      ———–

The following features will be supported in this version of the plugin.

      1. Node Configuration
      2. Account Management
      3. Transaction Management
      4. Native Token Management

      1. Node Configuration

Developers should be able to configure one or more remote or local Cardano nodes inside their IDE.

The feasibility of type of integration will be decided during the project. But the current plans are

      • Configure a local node using using docker – The components needed for this are Cardano-node and Cardano-wallet.

Developer can start and stop both cardano-node & cardano-wallet component on their local machine directly from their IDE.

      • Remote Node (Cardano-wallet hosted remotely) – Developer can configure a remote Cardano-wallet REST API endpoint inside IntelliJ IDE.

      2. Account Management

Managing test accounts during development could be a painful process. Using account management, developers can create accounts, check account details (balance, assets). The accounts managed by account management module can be easily accessible from various user interfaces like Transaction UI, Native Asset UI etc.

      3. Transaction Management

A dedicate UI to create and post transaction inside IntelliJ IDE. Developer can also include meta data and other possible fields during transaction submission. The plugin will automatically get the network params and populate/create the transaction accordingly. This will help developers to quickly post a transaction without going through a multi-step process.

      4. Native Token Management

Dedicate UI for native asset creation and transfer. The IDE will keep record of created native assets, so that those can be referred easily inside the IDE.

      Delivery plan

      ————–

      MVP release 1 – 8th week

MVP release final – 10th Week

Monthly milestone release can be planned based on the progress.

Go programming language has been in the top 5 GitHub’s most used programming languages for several years. https://madnight.github.io/githut/#/pull_requests/2020/4

Unfortunately, it is currently missing many essential development libraries that would encourage people to develop on Cardano blockchain.

We want to create Cardano serialization library for Go.

Serialization libraries make it easier for developers to work with data structures used in Cardano’s blockchain implementation, such as creating and derivating keys, managing metadata and assembling transactions.

    ## Deliverables

We will start an open-source Cardano serialization library for Go with the following support in the first release:

    • Support derivating keys from ED25519-BIP32 and BIP32
    • Support all current types of Cardano addresses
    • Cardano transaction metadata structures manipulation
    • Transaction assembling including fee estimation

We estimate it will take us 2 months from the funding to release the first stable version.

      TV LED DEVELOPMENT EXPERIENCE

We are the official advert partner for multiple LED sales companies in the UK and have built 100s LED Adverts to date.

Our partners find the business and we work with the brands to build their ads accordingly – occasionally they have a clear idea of what they required, however most of the time we present multiple ideas, which when combined we come up with amazing ads together.

Although this can be very time consuming, it is also very rewarding.

We have worked with some of the largest brands in the World including Coca Cola, Heineken, Expert, Remax, Velux, Stihl, Lidl, Unistar and many others ..

      STADIUMS

Almost every stadium has different requirements and specifications on how they need adverts built (from movie format to specific advert dimensions).

Some stadiums even require multiple formats for the same game.

      SPORTS

The following is a list of sports we have already built adverts for:

      Soccer

      – Euro 2020 playoffs

      – UEFA Nations League (2020/2021)

      TRACKING ENGAGEMNT

Although we are unable to track how many people view the adverts directly on TV, we can however track those that interact with it and visit the website. Our existing clients have been very happy with the various dashboards and graphs we have produced to show them their ROI.

      CATALYST COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

We would love the community to vote on the many sports games we will have availability for this year and also vote for the various adverts we will produce – together we can choose the best way to spread the word of Cardano.

TV ADVERTISING AVAILABILITY and RETURN ON INVESTMENT

TV advertising is the quickest and most affordable way to establish the Cardano Brand and bring it to the attention of millions of people.

In 2021 we will have availability to place adverts at literally 100s of sports events. This proposal will be for 6-8 matches. Each stadium and event has various prices attached so we use the community to help choose the games to ensure we are spending the ADA wisely.

There is no point in us promising 25+ adverts as we would break the bank with the required ADA and would not be selected. We receive between 50% and 75% discounts with our partners so we are extremely confident in stretching the ADA as far as it can go. On average each game costs between $5,000 and $10,000 – we have brokered a deal with our partners for a fraction of that cost.

    Introduction

    Developer-perspective

The Conversational UI toolkit simplifies our front-end technology stack as it aims to replace responsive design.

    User-perspective
Our current applications are harsh, full of assumptions, and separate education from the application. We need a new fresh and easy-to-use toolkit that results in a new social interaction design model that guides people to their goals.

    Conversational Interaction Design.
Conversational interaction design makes chat actionable between actors in a network; It uses storytelling structures and chat-logic to make software social, polite, pleasant, and human. Let’s stop designing software for the individual and build meaningful human engagement using the Conversational UI toolkit.

    Fluid business models
Conversational UI Toolkit enables us to remediate interfaces, workshops, products, and services, making our new business models fluid while bringing character and personality to our digital space.

    Avoid Horseless Carriage Syndrome
The biggest mistake we can make is copying old page-based design systems in new cutting edge fluid money technology like Cardano.

Let us co-designing a new Conversational UI toolkit that builds the foundation for a new conversational network.

Changes from our Fund 2 submission.

I have reduced the scope of the proposal from a detailed report to a medium-high level report which allows me to reduce the fee charged by 79% in USD terms.

Questions and Answers that were made previously during Fund 2.

    Q/A 1

Kris Urbas: How does it help to encourage DEVs and Dapps to be built on the Cardano?

    ICO Research Group: Great question!

Personally, I am more interested in making sure we have a good system in place that funds proposals which help ADA increase in value relative to things like USD or BTC. So you could say I am not truly addressing the problem statement that IOHK have created.

However, If I had to answer your question, it would be this –

If we have funds leaking out into weak proposals due to a flawed system design, then how are we going fund quality proposals that truly “encourage DEVs and Dapps to be built on Cardano” in a way that creates value for ADA holders?

Funding proposals means that ADA gets sold off into fiat currencies which increases the sell side pressure on Cardano. When the price goes up (through funding quality proposals), it garners attention similar to the parabolic rise of Bitcoin & Ethereum in 2017 which pulled in all the finance guys like myself into the space to investigate.

Currently, there is little to no incentive to be on ideascale conducting due diligence on every proposal, especially by people with the necessary skills/experience who can do a good job.

Hope that helps answer your question.

Kris Urbas: I understand now, I think this is very important for the ecosystem even if not directly related to the current fund goal, thanks for the explanation!

    Q/A 2

shapiro21: What metrics are you going to use to gauge the success or failure of a funding process? Do you have any general metrics in mind?

    ICO Research Group: Nice question.

With some proposals, you will be able to track a direct correlation between the price of ADA and the success of a proposal. Think of Uniswap as an example, it encourages people to buy ETH to make transactions so the value of ETH goes up. We can see the amount of ETH uniswap uses, uniswap accounts for 20% of all the Tx fees on Ethereum. If we fund proposals like this you could say the funding process has been successful (assuming the financing cost is significantly lower than the value created for the network).

Some proposals will have more of an indirect effect. For example, the proposal brings more people into the Cardano eco-system to hold ADA in perpetuity because holding ADA provides increasing utility to the holder. It is harder to track directly how these proposals make the value of ADA go up and requires more qualitative judgement.

There are issues with the current funding process and they will become more prominent as the system grows. However, they have been solved before in the prior decentralised funding model, but I can elaborate on that topic further if this proposal gets funded.

    Key Questions

Before we begin, a key question to ask is –

What are the key objectives for Cardano’s decentralised fund?

In our view, it is to create value for ADA holders.

The decentralised fund will either be ADA holders’ greatest friend or its greatest enemy.

Funding low quality proposals will make the value of ADA go down and funding high value quality proposals will make the value of ADA go up.

Another question to ask is –

Given that Cardano’s current success is based on scientific methods and a research first driven approach, does it not make sense to research other decentralised funding systems which have been successful?

    Page – 4

    Introduction

We started off the crypto journey back in 2017 and was floored by the idea that anyone, anywhere could invest in the best deals possible without any restrictions. This single idea is what made us interested in digging deeper and it brought us to where we are today.

The people who get access to the best investments with the most upside are the Venture Capitalists. They have the incredible upside because they can invest at the earliest stage possible. The public are left with the IPO round which has the least possible upside. Crypto has given smaller investors access to make some remarkable returns if investments are made wisely.

We helped a project during 2018/2019 which involved decentralised investment decision making which worked very well. That involved around 50 participants who were all incentivised to find/research projects so the fund (around 7 figures USD) could buy a stake in the project (e.g. the token or coin). People who had a good reputation (from doing good work) received most of the rewards if the projects selected appreciated in price.

The top rated project was Cardano and the second best rated project was Celsius Network (which is up x68 since the investment) with Bitcoin taking the third spot.

    Page – 5

    The Proposal

What we will do is translate the key findings from our involvement in the previous decentralised funding project in a way that can help improve the outcome of Cardano’s decentralised fund.

We can take all the positive points from that project and if useful incorporate it in to Cardano’s decentralised funding system. Also, we can take all the things that did not work so well and avoid repeating the same mistakes. We will have a case study to learn from which is incredibly relevant to what we are building out today with Cardano’s decentralised fund.

Completing this proposal would take 1 month which includes –

    1. Medium to High level information on the previous decentralised funding project (e.g. how the system worked)
    2. Translating findings to help streamline Cardano’s decentralised funding system in a way that drives value for ADA holders while removing a lot of the complexities

+ On-going feedback to IOHK and community members to help make Cardano the best it can be.

    Results

You have a low cost proposal that delivers results, and if we get this system right, it would be stronger than even the best venture capitalist teams. This will make ADA one of the most valuable eco-systems on the planet.

A well-built system will encourage participants to become more educated and savvy investors that can build wealth, help ADA appreciate in value and drive economic growth which is dearly needed in today’s stagnating economies.

Everstake is ready to create many educational materials about Cardano and distribute them among our customer base. Our experience (30+ blockchains) shows that the most efficient way to reach out to the maximum audience – is to create useful educational materials, spread organically via social media and messengers.
In addition to simple educational materials, we are planning to focus on more serious guides for developers, which will help to increase their interested in Cardano and to build Dapps on top of Cardano.
Everstake has successful experience with creating such step-by-step guides in several forms:

Criteria 3: [Reach and potential users]
      1. Articles / Blog posts / Guides
For example, a couple of articles can bring in a week: Views: 500 – 1000
      In a month: Views: 2000 – 5000
      2. Video
For example, a couple of videos can bring in a week: Video Views: 500 – 1000
      In a month: Video Views: 2000 – 5000
      3. Twitter Promo
For example, 3-5 posts can bring in a week:
Engagement Rate (per Impression): 10% Impressions: 10000 Engagements: 1000
      In a month: Engagement Rate (per Impression): 7-10% Impressions: 30000 – 50000 Engagements: 5000
A more accurate prediction for the next months or year can be made after the first month of content creation. As all our activities will attract a new audience to the Near ecosystem, we forecast a weekly increase in subscribers to social networks and blockchain users (creation of new accounts) in 200 – 500 users, respectively 800 – 2500 per month.

  • Free-Commerce: sell online with ADA

    from:

    Free-Commerce: sell online with ADA

    Problem statement :

Enabling stores to sell goods and services for ADA requires intermediaries who have control over your money and charge fees and commissions.

Describe your solution to the problem

To build opensource, intermediary and commission free payment integrations for online stores. ADA flows directly from buyer to seller.

    Relevant experience

Tech Lead with 20+ years of software development experience, masters degree in computer science, creator of multiple open-source projects.

    Website/GitHub repository (not required) https://github.com/uniVocity
Detailed plan (not required) – Fill in here any additional details

    OVERVIEW

We want to build integrations to enable cardano payments, using ADA or its native tokens, in any online webstore and major e-commerce platforms. For this round we will focus on Shopify for our first step in the journey towards adoption.

So initially, we are going to release and maintain an official Shopify app, which will be immediately accessible to more than 500,000 online businesses around the world who generate 800 million dollars per minute in sales. This work has already started the source code is available on github: https://github.com/uniVocity/shopify

    VALUE PROPOSITION

To enable the cardano blockchain to work as a free payment gateway for ADA and native tokens, and facilitate e-commerce by eliminating intermediaries between product/service providers and consumers.

    How it will work

Here is a detailed breakdown of how it will work: first it will be free for everyone. Other than regular transaction fees on the blockchain itself, no one has to pay commissions nor fees. There’s no account creation required anywhere and it works as a straight “wallet to wallet” solution:

    1. The shopify app doesn’t have anyone’s private key (from neither the shop who installs the app nor the customers).
    2. At no point the app server should have access to anyone’s funds, even if temporarily.
    3. To enable payments with any cardano token, the shop will provide its public root key. Not the private key.
    4. That root key will be used to generate new receiving addresses on demand.
    5. Every receiving address will be unique. We generate shelley receiving addresses like what daedalus gives out.
    6. When a customer of a store makes a purchase, a new receiving address will be generated from the public root key and associated with the order.
    7. When someone sends a native asset or ADA to a payment address, the store owner will receive the funds directly in their wallet, to which we have no access (we don’t know and don’t want to know the private key)
    8. Once the total amount of the order is paid to the receiving address, the order is fulfilled and the shop can send the items purchased to the customer .
    9. With one receiving address per order we are able to determine that X amount was sent to that particular receiving address, instead of mixing funds with the whole balance of the wallet managed by the store.
    10. This also maintains privacy of the online store as one customer won’t be able to see other payments the store received.

In short, our solution works as a mere observer of transactions made from one or more (customer) addresses to another from the store owner (associated with an online purchase). Funds go straight to the shop owner wallet.

    What we already did

Here is a video update on the developments already made to process online payments using cardano on Shopify:

    Challenges found

During initial development of this we found a few limitations on existing wallets that can hinder larger businesses to process high volumes of sales using the blockchain. So part of the Shopify integration work also depends on an e-commerce friendly wallet for cardano which we are building.

This is a desktop wallet to help online stores process payments and is not specific to Shopify. It’s being built to make it easy for businesses to generate and upload public root keys (required to generate payment addresses on demand) to their online stores.

The wallet will be able to pull online purchase information associated with every payment received, and will work around limitations of existing wallets that aren’t suited for handling payments at scale – the BIP-44 protocol generates payment address in sequence, and expects at least one transaction every 20 payment addresses. If a website has 20 abandoned checkouts and receives a payment on the 21st checkout, the payment won’t show up in your regular wallet (daedalus, yoroi, etc) – the money is not lost, but it’s not accounted for until there is at least on transaction every 20 addresses generated. Our wallet aims to solve this issue and make sure high volumes of sales can be processed without any hiccups.

The wallet work, along with more detailed information, is also open-source and available here: https://github.com/uniVocity/envlp-cardano-wallet

Here is another video detailing why and how it will work:

    EXPECTATIONS

You can check our progress on the github repositories linked below.

I’ll also submit video updates every time any relevant development is complete.

A store owner should be able to run their own free-commerce server independently of us or anyone else.

    MILESTONES

(Month 1) – deliver the wallet that will enable online stores to export public root keys to generate payment addresses for them, and once payments are received, it will display them correctly (as explained earlier regular wallets such as daedalus are unable to display payments where there are “gaps” of more than 20 payment addresses with no transactions)

(Month 2) – A development version of the integration with the basic sales workflow will be released for online stores who want to test it. It will be updated frequently to incorporate adjustments and more features.

(Month 3) – Better integration of the ENVLP wallet with the online store (reports, online store management, etc)

(Month 4) – Release candidate of the shopify APP.

(Month 5) – Free-commerce app available on the shopify app store for all 500K stores that run on that platform.

(Month 6 onward) – maintenance, monitoring and adjustments as required.

    FUTURE PLANS

Everything we are doing here is planned to allow for easy introduction of new capabilities. A lot of the work for our Shopify integration will be reused to enable online payments in other platforms – to which we will submit proposals in the future.

    RISK

I’m counting on earning additional funding from fees collected by the SHOP stake pool, especially to keep the project going after the first year.

I’ve tried to minimize risk by already coding an initial prototype version the proves the integration will work with Shopify.

Store owners who intend to use this integration must be aware of their local legislation regarding the usage of crypto for the exchange of goods.

Consumers of stores who sell goods for ADA must be aware of the risks associated with transacting with crypto currencies – there is little to no recourse in case of fraud. Transactions can’t be reversed and funds can’t be seized. This can be minimized if consumers purchase from reputable stores.

Software development with bleeding edge technology can come with surprises that usually take a long time to overcome. I already spent a whole week to identify and solve the issue of payments not showing on daedalus – related to the 20 payment address gap mentioned above – which prompted me to begin working on the ENVLP wallet to overcome this limitation. That added at least one extra month of development time, not counting the work already done so far. I hope it will be smooth sailing from here but we can never know.

    METRICS

Code activity can be measured from the commits on these two github projects:

The projects can be compiled and deployed by anyone interested in seeing how the software is working at any point during development. We will provide step by step documentation on how to build, run and test everything independently.

Once the free-commerce app is available to online stores on shopify, we can obtain reports and feedback from businesses that are using the integration.

    ACTIVITY BREAKDOWN AND EXPECTED COST:

*Assuming hourly rate of 65 USD/hour

    *Optimistic estimates

    – Development activities:

    (A) Sales database setup (7 to 10 days): allow registering order, product and customer information from multiple stores which can run on multiple platforms. We want to reuse the same back-end to process sales from not only shopify – there’s magento, woocommerce, etc.

    (B) Back-end integration with shopify (14 to 21 days): install/uninstall app, process webhooks which shopify uses to send updates to our servers, implementation of functions for interacting with the online store and its data (mark orders as paid, manual/phone orders).

    (C) Back-end processing (30 to 45 days): e-mail sending, QR code generation, tracking of pending orders and corresponding payment addresses, conversion of dollar amount to ADA (from multiple sources), handling expiration of orders that are not paid within a given timeframe, process discounts, handling partial payments and overpayments

    (D) Back-end integration with cardano-db-sync (2-3 days): create database triggers and other functions to broadcast updates in real time from the blockchain to (C) and capture payments to addresses associated with open orders created by each store.

    (E) Front-end integration with shopify (14-21 days): create app admin pages to configure essentials such as public root key upload (used to generate payment addresses for each order created by customers of the store), e-mail servers, e-mail templates, configuration of disounts for one or more products and their variants, allow store owner to determine price of goods in ADA (fixed) or fiat, basic reporting capabilities.

    (F) ENVLP wallet development (30 to 45 days): upload public root keys to online store from within the wallet. Pull order/customer/product information fom the online store associated with each transaction in the owner wallet. Implement support for staking, sending and receiving money like a regular wallet (i.e. interact with the cardano-wallet service)

    (G) Build/deployment (3 to 4 days): produce scripts that produce self-contained packages ready for deployment to the servers who will run this integration (also making it easier for others to deploy and run this in their own servers)

    (H) Documentation (4 to 7 days): document the source code and write tutorials with the steps required for others to extend, build and deploy this solution independently. This is documentation for other developers to refer to when trying to understand the software. For examples of documentation we’ve already written for other software, refer to these examples:

Estimates account for testing and development releases.

    DEVELOPMENT TOTALS:

    * min: 7+14+30+2+14+30+3+4 = 104 days * 8 hours/day = 832 hours * 65 USD/hour = 54080 USD one-off

    * max: 10+21+45+3+21+45+4+7 = 156 days * 8 hours/day = 1248 hours * 65 USD/hour = 81120 USD one-off

    – Support activities (around 20 to 25 hours per month):

    * (A) keep up with shopify API updates – webservices/webhooks are modified every now and then, which requires update on the source code/redeployment.

    * (B) keep up with cardano-db-sync/cardano-node/cardano-wallet updates – these have been updated frequently (at least monthly) and will probably continue to be for the foreseeable future

    * (C) server monitoring and maintenance

    SUPPORT TOTALS:

    * min: 20 hours * 3 months = 60 hours * 65 USD/hour = 3900 USD/year

    * max: 25 hours * 3 months = 75 hours * 65 USD/hour = 4875 USD/year

    – Running costs:

    * (A) At least one server for the executable shopify integration back-end (might have to scale according to demand) (120 USD/month per server)

    * (B) One database server for shopify integration back-end (120 USD/Month)

    * (C) Possibly one replicated database server which runs independently from (A) and (B) – used for reporting and querying without penalizing the main database. (80 USD/month – one cloud server)

    * (D) One server to host cardano-node and cardano-db-sync with its postgresql database. (80 USD/month – one cloud server)

    * (E) SSL sertificate (~10 USD/month)

Running costs on (A) can vary depending on demand.

Servers are required during development, so we are accounting for 6 months.

    SERVER TOTALS:

    * min: 120+120+80+10 = 330 USD/month * 6 months = 1980 USD/year

    * max: 120+120+120+80+80+10 = 530 USD/month * 6 months = 3180 USD/year

    PROJECT TOTALS:

    * min: 54080 + 3900 + 1980 = 59960 USD

    * max: 81120 + 4875 + 3180 = 89175 USD

    Meet in the middle project price: (59960 + 89175) / 2 = 74567.50
