      Relevant experience

.NET Developer with over 10 years. Currently managing dozens of microservices over multiple environments using latest .NET Technologies

      Website/GitHub repository (not required) https://github.com/CardanoSharp
Detailed plan (not required) – Fill in here any additional details

The future of .NET is promising and currently has about 6 million developers. If we had libraries supporting .NET, we could have developers building Web apps, Mobile apps, and Desktop apps (cross platform by 2022) and even Games through the Unity Game Engine.
      Proposed Libraries:
      – CardanoSharp.DbSync: This library will help apps easily connect to the postgres db created from cardano-db-sync. Developers could build explorers or just query blockchain data to support their application.
      – CardanoSharp.Wallet: This library will help developers manage wallets and transactions. Developers can manage ADA, mint Native Assets, and create transactions to support their application.
CardanoDbSharp (future name: CardanoSharp.DbSync.Dapper) is already under development, open source, and usable today.

      Estimate:
I’m estimating things in blocks of 4 hours.
      Project Estimates:
      – CardanoSharp.DbSync.Dapper: A repository with models, relationships, and some special queries that utilize Dapper as DAL
      – Coding Estimate: 16hrs
      – Documentation Estimate: 8hrs
      – CardanoSharp.DbSync.EntityFramework: A repository with models, relationships, and some special queries that utilize EfCore as DAL
      – Coding Estimate: 24hrs
      – Documentation Estimate: 8hrs
      – CardanoSharp.Wallet.Address: This is essentially a .NET version of cardano-address. Generate Mnemonics, Private/Public Keys, and Addresses
      – Coding Estimate: 64hrs
      – Documentation Estimate: 24hrs
      – CardanoSharp.Wallet.Transactions: This will build and sign transactions.
      – Coding Estimate: 80hrs
      – Documentation Estimate: 24hrs

      – Explorer Demo Utilizing Cardano.DbSync
      – Coding Estimate: 80hrs

A for ADA Cryptoalphabet 4 children

    from:

    Ideascale link

    Challenge question :

How to increase general awareness about Cardano and cryptocurrencies?

How to make fun community-building incentives?

    Why is it important?

The earlier to start financial education – the better it will be in the long-term.

Cryptoalphabet – community-created Alphabet for children

    How does success look like?

As community defines it. I.e. If the general awareness will increase, and there will be high demand for “Cryptoalphabet”

    Key Metrics to measure

    – Number of people engaged into the creation of Cryptoalphabet

    – Number of people interested in getting this book

    – Number of book sales outside of Cardano community

    – Number of books sales outside the crypto space

    – Number of popular media who covered this story

    – The revenue generated by the book sales

    Challenge brief

    A for ADA

    B for Bitcoin

The community-driven effort of creating the crypto-alphabet for the children. The community will vote and express an opinion, volunteer to create rhymes for particular letters and drawings.

We all agree is that A is for Ada, B for Bitcoin, But D might be for Dash or Decred?

H might be for Horizen or Holochain

    T for Tezos or Telos

What letter to choose? Let the community decide.

Either by voting or “supporting” a particular letter, the community can decide. I.e. if some of you want Horizen to “win” the letter H – then you can send any amount of ADA to the project’s address. Then if suddenly Hedera Hashgraph fan appears and start competing with you – the competition to the letter might continue for hundreds or thousands of ADA.

This crypto-alphabet will be published as Book and distributed for all of the community – first of all, those who take an active part in Project Catalyst. Then as presents to different Cardano meetup attendees, future conferences, and summits, but also it will be sold both as digital and as a paperback. As this project is applying for treasure funds, so the potential profits will be used to rewards active participants of the book creation, additional creation of book supplies, and maybe reserve fund for future activities. I know a publisher who agreed to do this project in my country, and have also their distribution network – so also the book will be sold for people outside of crypto area, which is good as it brings additional brand awareness and potential adoption.

There are 2 option for illustrations:

    1. Children will draw the illustrations, first of all children of people from Cardano ecosystem, but it can go further to other communities

    2. We’ll find a designer (it’s not a problem, when the text is ready, each letter – represents each crypto, so it won’t be hard for designer to draw illustration based on it). Maybe the designer from community will be willing to join this project.

I’m putting the budget of $4800 USD which will be enough to print 2000 copies of book (well, maybe we should print more) and rewarding all the people who contributed (designers, text creator) and book shipping costs

Many aspects of the process are up for the community to decide

Challenge budget in USD. Only use numbers! No symbols, letters, fractions. 4800

  • A Scalable Decision Economy

    from:

    Ideascale link

    Problem statement :

Cardano’s success is directly connected to the effectiveness of our governance. We need to holistically architect and scale governance.

Describe your solution to the problem

Instead of building an economy around consumption, lets build an economy that rewards debiasing and generating effective governance policy.

    Relevant experience

PM / Systems Engineer with background in business analysis, optimisation, coordination/control systems and data driven governance.

    Website/GitHub repository (not required) https://miro.com/app/board/o9J_lTV0byI=/
Detailed plan (not required) – Fill in here any additional details

    Current State:

Natural collectives rarely allow a single individual or elite group to make decisions for the group. This is because these leadership structures are prone to compromise.

Currently our economy and governance demonstrate such compromise: they implicitly support targets of conspicuous consumption, attention commodification and resource exploitation. This in-turn generates systemic inequalities and problems such as climate change, misinformation and planned obsolescence, to name a few.

In our current state the inequality is “baked-in” to our very economy making it inexplicably difficult to remove in all but a superficial sense.

In addition the current state of the Cardano governance system is adhoc and fragmented (as is to be expected given its recency) we can now take steps to design a holistic flow that utilises the outcomes generated by these system.

    – Project Catalyst -> Generation of Proposal

    – IOHK/CH/Catalyst videos -> Generation of Vision

    – Cardano Governance Forums -> Unstructured Discussions

    Why:

We’ve seen multiple projects at distributed autonomous fail including the DAO, Bitcoin Cash and the current state of token ecosystem.

Its important here to realise Cardano Governance IS Cardano. There’s a volume of ideas, limited resources, time and attention. Further scaling the current model is going to be impossible as we experience exponential growth.

Further, while this system or end-state is not in place, the community (and currency) is vulnerable to attack through social engineering means.

    Future State:

This proposal is for the development of a reference design that incorporates all the current components and feedback to date from the above sources and proposes a single, unified governance workflow with the elements of above. Its our view that the design form a base for the constructive coagulation of many community ideas.

    How:

Within modern cryptonomics the “work” required to verify transactions and generate blocks is incentivised by a token reward within the ecosystem. The circular nature of this principle is a central sustaining component both to a networks operation and integrity.

Similarly, we propose a reference design for an economy centred around effective governance. We incentivise community participation, curation and debiasing (“verification”) of effective projects and policy as the implicit “workload” of the economy.

To ensure that these outcomes are not generated in a mono-culture of thought, or promoted through other maligned incentives (such as bias, tweedism, nepotism) we propose a cohesive, scalable crowd-sourced policy generation platform.

Our reference design will include multiple approaches to ensure that maligned / compromised actors do not generate policy counter to multiple community goals and aspirations, even in cases where these community objectives may conflict.

    More Detail:

To this end, we aggregate various design suggestions proposed into a single cohesive collective intelligence workflow including multiple debiasing components. This proposal only includes scope for the construction of a reference design only.

    These components include:

    – A opt-in values and principles alignment system.

    – A system of working groups centred around communities of interest that can represent minority or unrecognised groups. (similar to that proposed by @jeffghome2020)

    – A system to promote awareness, emotion and empathy through conversational design (similar to that proposed by @nielskijf) that could also reduce platform overheads like internationalisation and on-boarding.

    – A system to develop deep insight sharing and drive informed voting inlcuding a place for creative arts and persuasive communication as well as data driven analysis on the basis of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

    – A system of collective strategy generation and prioritisation with the added benefit of inter-group coordination when strategies align.

    – A federated debate system that provides timely and tangible policy outcomes (similar to that proposed by @calliefionaburrito)

    – A process to responsively and scalably curate, moderate and debias policy

    – A process for reward sharing with the community to increase engagement and efficiency of the system.

    Technology:

We aim to platform the above workflow on the Cardano stack to leverage recent technical achievements:

    – Integration into Voltaire based voting

    – A policy / project generation system integrated with the existing Cardano Treasury model.

    – An integrated rewards structure (introducing Proposals NFTs, a Network Trust token and a Prediction Market for sentiment) to promote contribution, reward engagement and accurate analysis.

    – A approach to generating data-driven policy justification integrating smart contracts and oracles.

    Deliverable:

The key deliverable of this project will be a community developed reference design and materials to communicate this design that incorporates the learnings of the past, a number of diverse viewpoints against which community comments can be accepted in future rounds. This forms the training wheels for collective governance.

    Funds:

The nominal requested funds are to support curators in the structuring of reference material and ideas into a single cohesive reference design compatible with Voltaire governance. We are confident all community contributions to date (20210301) will be incorporated. Where its not possible to incorporate these ideas, we will frame further questions to the community for discussion.

    Summary:

We believe the key to Cardano’s long term success is the effective generation and selection of targets, policy and projects.

To be able to generate consensus, we need to unite in objective truth.

To this extent we need to focus on creating a reference design for our end state that incorporates community suggestions to date and creates a frame for further discussion and contribution. This by no means will be a complete solution, rather a projection of today’s community view of the network’s governance architecture.

Debaising our decisions so that we can target goals in line with our values and principles is of utmost importance to the community. We believe consequences of this experiment in governance becoming another agent to preserve the status quo in our society would be a worst case outcome to both the organisation and the spirit of the organisation.

Cardano is founded on equity for all. In this process we need to design to ensure the effects of individual human bias are minimised while leveraging crowd-sourced information processing and remaining responsive to our members needs. These requirements are critical to the security of the governance, generation of effective policy and preservation of our humanity.

  • A Smart Market Toolkit for Cardano trending idea

    Problem statement :

A killer application, specific to Cardano is needed to drive wide-scale adoption

Describe your solution to the problem

Construct a toolkit for building Smart Markets, the killer dApps on Cardano. You can then trade any mix of assets tokenized as NFTs

    Relevant experience

Financial markets software engineering, tech start-ups, Data & Govtech, impact investing, art, music. Active organizing legal-tech community

    Website/GitHub repository (not required) https://t.me/Smart_Market_for_NFTs
Detailed plan (not required) – Fill in here any additional details

Uber uses auctions to find the best route and match drivers to ride requests. It is a smart-market and oracle that works out the best price for a journey. However as a centralised service, Uber maximises returns to their shareholders at the expense of the drivers and society as a whole.

We are most familiar with auction markets used by eBay, art auction houses, stock exchanges and cryptocurrency trading, whether CeFi or DeFi. These are competitive market designs that maximise profit, not societal benefit. Less well known are auction markets that aim to benefit society as a whole.

Smart-Markets are automated auctions that pool offers and work out the best match, or price, in a way that gives the most benefit to all participants. Paul Milgrom and Robert Wilson won the 2020 Nobel Economics Prize[1] for their pioneering work into auction theory that drives these automated markets. Google Adwords, energy generation, efficient transportation networks such as airport landing slots, internet routing, or Uber and many other gig-economy labour markets benefit from these automated decision-making tools.

The opportunities for smart-markets are both large and varied. Far more than the simple bilateral trading found in competitive markets.

This proposal outlines a T shaped project, going broad on the five key topics that contribute to building smart-markets on Cardano. Emphasising its unique features and amplifying the strategic vision as a financial operating system. We’ll be diving deep on a specific application of our auction protocol to illustrate how Cardano’s unique features can be used in real-world smart-markets.

A smart-market solution can be applied to problems such as:

    • logistics problems for reliable fertiliser distribution in Ethiopia, a complex dynamic market riddled with grift.
    • replenish food banks, efficiently distributing nearly expired foods and reducing food waste.
    • cooperative housing, or small community-owned solar and wind power generation and battery storage.
    • An impact-oriented e-learning platform matching students to course material and tutors.
    • provision of biodiversity conservation efforts with contracted and volunteer crowdsourcing.
    • stablecoin designs.
    • foreign currency exchange with low demand.
    • person-to-person sports betting.

The intent of this proposal is to research, design, and prototype a decentralised auction protocol and associated Oracle Pool design. It leverages the work already done by Emurgo Research to enrich and strengthen the economic logic of Stake Pool Operators.

Testing real-world smart-markets is expensive. To make the problem approachable and limit the scope for this proposal, we are using a Trading Card Game, Dark Country [2], as our test use-case. This will demonstrate using Cardano’s custom tokens and meta-data support to represent unique items, sometimes called Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT). Custom Tokens and NFTs can be used to represent other tradable assets such as art, shares in layered digital artworks, music rights, or stages in a transportation network.

Our approach will implement the auction protocol on-chain to collect offers and clear them efficiently. Oracles calculate the optimal allocation of all card trades in a transparent manner. The layer-2 prototype will show how game players can strategically stack their decks. Swapping cards anonymously without needing Ada or any other crypto-currency to make the trades.

By prototyping with a trading card game, learning in public, we can iterate faster, learn more and inspire others. The resulting toolkit of learning resources, UI designs, NFT Meta-Data Standards, protocol engineering and prototype Plutus code can be used as the basis to solve complex market allocation problems all over the world.

    Team

The team has experience in financial markets software engineering, tech start-ups, Data & Govtech, impact investing, art, music, and education. We are active in organizing legal-tech community and facilitating online communities in gaming and education. The team includes six members established within the Cardano community during fund 2.

RO: Distributed Systems Software Engineer (Financial systems) and Entrepreneur. Co-Founded three start-ups in Financial Data Analytics, International Trade Payments, and Impact Investing. Co-Organises LegalHackers NZ, and advises a Social Entrepreneurship charity.

NH: A Teacher, technology enthusiast and stake pool operator. Nick has worked in semiconductor research and in front-line technical support as well as teaching. Extensive experience with online communities, particularly with gaming and education of non-technical users in block-chain products.

AW: Distributed systems software engineer, mostly in the financial sector in the City of London. Worked at Barclays Capital (credit risk) and LIFFE (derivatives exchange). Also experienced with the hospitality sector.

Full team details are available in also the attached proposal summary document.

We will draw upon other skills including Economist, Data Scientist, UX Designer as needed.

    Deliverables

We are leveraging the work already done by IOG and Emurgo, and we will contribute back to the developer ecosystem. If an opportunity presents itself, contributing to the emerging developer portal with the knowledge acquired.

    • Research reading bibliography.
    • Simulation models using cadCAD, published as Jupyter notebooks.
    • Define NFT meta-data standards (draft).
    • Plutus code for auction and oracle pool protocols.
    • Oracle Pool node software (research quality).
    • Trading Card NFTs (that in principle can have a market value)
    • UX Prototypes to illustrate market interactions.
    • Maintain social media channels Twitter, Telegram, Discord, Youtube.
    • Document concepts and progress in blog posts and video explainers.

Documentation will be licensed Creative-Commons CC-BY-SA. Source code will be licensed using an appropriate open-source license, e.g. MIT, and contributions must be contributed patent-free. Code, documentation, and notebooks will be made available on Github.

The roadmap and associated deliverables can be found in the attached proposal summary document.

    Risks

    1. Team Dynamics: A new team, different time zones and varying commitments.
Addressed by adding team members that have worked together. To help test team dynamics we worked collaboratively to produce proposal artefacts including proposal video.
    2. Key Personnel: Unable to continue with the project.
Addressed by managing scope, documenting a clear plan and source of material knowledge, collective team learning, and developing in public.
    3. Software Dependency: Multi-Asset support and Plutus release are delayed.
Addressed by prototype work. We are not building production-ready software. Development can use Plutus playground or private test networks.
    4. Scope: Too complex and ambitious for team-skill.
Addressed by making content deliverables introductory level, delivering in stages, and making the deep engineering work very specific.
    5. Technical: approach fails, does not work or not useful.
Addressed by creating two primary sets of deliverables- content, and engineering. Content deliverables are 100% applicable.

    Return on Intention

Intention: Construct a toolkit of material that complements the training material from Cardano Foundation and IOG. Focusing on the application- Smart-Market based on Oracle Pool Architecture- rather than learning Plutus/Haskell. Broadly cover topics that highlight the unique features of Cardano with understandable language, and real-world application; presented meaningfully, and done by relatable others. To get people understanding how they can use the unique features of Cardano, to help them to see the possibilities of building on Cardano.

These features include Ouroboros’s logical clock, the ExUXTO process-oriented transaction model, native custom tokens and meta-data features for NFTs, Plutus, interestingly combining these – a smart-market design that uses an oracle pool— creating a virtuous loop that enhances the revenue opportunities for Stake-Pool Operators. The motivating problem that Smart-Market’s enable is multilateral swaps.

Return: Developers are inspired to leverage the unique features of Cardano, in a way that reinforces the internal economic logic of the Cardano Network. At least one technology start-up (commercial or social) builds upon the work to target a specific market opportunity.

    Key Performance Indicators

Key MetricProject Velocity[3], defined as a combination of base activity metric of commits pulled from Github. Team success metric in achieving short-terms targets of topic content delivery, and community impact metric.

Activity Metrics: captured as project activity in GitHub and cadence of deliverables, a.) Content delivered; b.) Engineering milestones achieved.

Community Metrics: engagement behaviours broken down into four categories[4] for the content we produce, to measure how our work is being spread.

    • Validating – views, likes, shares
    • Sharing – Tweets, Comments, References in documents.
    • Asking & Answering – questions asked and answered across channels
    • Exploring – Open-ended questions, and conversations about applications

In addition to content distribution, outreach into other communities will be necessary. For example, we will be actively engaging with the cadCAD and Token Engineering communities to explore the Smart-Market and Oracle Pool design space. Asking and answering, and exploring interactions will be noted as they occur.

    Costs:

Total Ask. ADA 981319 ($104K USD) for six months, funding six team members.

Based on a pro-rata hourly rate for the six-team members. The budget takes an FTE of USD$100K. Adjusting for experience, work, individual facilities, and short term nature of the project is used to calculate an hourly rate. The effort assigned: 30% to learning, 55% for production activities, 5% for communication, and 10% for administration overhead. Including some allowance for currency risk.

Production of five modules includes the team’s learning and educational content development (USD $50K). Protocol Engineering (USD $60K). Community Engagement ($15K USD). Thirty per cent of the total budget is discounted to account for individual learning (-$20KUSD).

The budget balances the need to be fair on team commitment and be efficient in learning and delivery outcomes. Roadmap, deliverables, and KPIs are designed to allow accountability and measure progress in stages. They also have been designed to allow us to be responsive and adapt (in-terms of engagement and content) to the experience of the community.

More detailed budget break-down can be found in the attached proposal summary document.

A ROUGH ESTIMATE OF POSSIBLE TIMELINE DURATIONS :

-TIME TO RECORD MASTERED MELODY AND RHYTHM ON GUITAR IN MY STUDIO ( 1 WEEK ) .

-TIME TO COLLECT COMMUNITY MEMBERS SINGING THEIR LINES ( 2 – 3 WEEKS SHOULD BE ENOUGH ) .

-TIME TO EDIT CLIPS TOGETHER AND MASTER INTO FINAL VIDEO ( 2 WEEKS ) .

=TOTAL TIME TO DO IT EFFICIENTLY – 6 WEEKS FROM BEING GREEN LIT ( BUT COULD BE DONE IN 3 WEEKS IF NECESSARY ) .

I Am Able To Produce Songs With Powerful Lyrics At Short Notice In A Studio I Have Built . It Is Located In The Centre Of One Of The Most Beautiful Natural Soundscapes In South East Asia I Call ‘ THE SHADOWS ‘ ( Think Of Muscle Shoals Meets Rainforest ) .

I Will Record , Edit And Produce A Song And Video To Raise Awareness Of A Campaign Focused On Stimulating Creativity In People . It Will Spread Through The ADA Community And The Catchiness Of The Melody Will Leave People Trembling And Eager To Participate .

I Will Finish With One Full Example Of An Already Completed Song And My Take On Blockchain Technology And An Example Of My Attention To Detail In Framing , Tone And Meaning .

Opportunities for young African devs to learn at an elite level and get them everything they need to make their ideas and projects a reality

Describe your solution to the problem

African Developer Training (then Expertise) Centre specializing in the development,of core Cardano blockchain technologies and applications.

Detailed plan (not required) – Fill in here any additional details

Why Are We Founding the African Blockchain Centre for Developers?

The world is now built on code, it’s not only brick-and-mortar anymore. Globally, many people don’t see an African as a potential world class software engineer. Views about Africa are based on advertisements and media that solicit help for children or other donations. We don’t believe that this is the most efficient or a sustainable way to support Africa!

The African continent is home to an emerging digital ecosystem and a massive, creative, and youthful talent pool. It is time to shine a spotlight on the ready potential of the continent and for a new generation of creators and leaders to rise up. We believe that we must provide the opportunity for people who want to make changes to positively impact society.

As the world and the role of blockchain continues to develop, we have brilliant African minds that are full of ideas and energy but who lack access to the infrastructure and funds to realize their dreams. We would like to give them the opportunity to learn at an elite level and get them everything they need to turn their ideas and projects into reality.

The African Blockchain Center for Developers (ABCD) will create opportunities by providing blockchain solutions for the world and by utilizing the pool of talent working remotely in Africa to build solutions for developers, start-ups, enterprises, and governments both on the continent and worldwide. The vision of the ABCD is to help bridge the developer-skills gap in Africa by providing better access to high-quality, world-class skills on blockchain technology.

Our main goal is finding talented and motivated people to provide them with the skills and means necessary to perform at an elite level. Following this, we will give new developers the opportunity to contribute to existing projects, to create their own projects, or to place them with partner companies looking for talent. All of this will in turn contribute to the global developer community on the Cardano network.

An In-Depth Look at the African Blockchain Center for Developers

The mission of the African Blockchain Center for Developers is to stimulate the establishment and growth of technology-based start-up companies and other blockchain-enabled businesses.

By fulfilling this mission, ABCD will concretely contribute to:
    • Local job creation
    • Local business development
    • On-boarding to the global Cardano ecosystem
    • Creation of Smart contracts and Dapps

Together with the Cardano Community, ABCD will create, develop and provide open source materials for new and emerging technology specializing in the development of core Cardano blockchain technologies and applications. In both the immediate and long terms, ABCD will facilitate enhanced economic health in Africa while promoting and encouraging adoption of Cardano throughout the continent.

These achievements will be self-reinforcing: by increasing the successful development of emerging businesses in the Cardano blockchain ecosystem, we will create value and new investment opportunities. By providing training, mentorship, shared space, and professional assistance, we will build a network of experts who will be able to share their expertise with additional developers. By incubating businesses, ABCD will move out into the community and contribute to the overall vitality, diversity, and growth of Cardano in the booming African economy.

ABCD will provide an environment that allows Africans to take an active role in “growing their own” businesses that will lead to job creation. These new businesses and new jobs produced create wealth through multiplier effects that ultimately benefits the overall community beyond the individuals.

    What Will the ABCD Do?

    Developer Training and skills development

ABCD will train developers and provide a network for collaborators to meet and contribute to the Cardano ecosystem. ABCD will provide value added services customized to their needs at every step of their learning journey within the Cardano and Blockchain environment.

    Business Assistance

Together with the Cardano community and active partners, ABCD will help startups through their early development by providing business advice, resources, contacts and technical support services including guidance and mentoring on business strategy, management, marketing, financial, legal, and product development issues as well as connecting startups with investors.

    Facility-Based Services

ABCD will provide developers and start-ups with appropriate rental space and flexible leases, shared business services and equipment, technology support services, and assistance necessary for company growth.

    Benefits to Stakeholders

When ABCD reaches its cruising altitude, the center will benefit a wide range of stakeholders.

How Will ABCD Benefit the Cardano Ecosystem?

Some of our developers already have promising ideas for some of the most critical issues in Africa. ABCD believes that the public’s faith in a blockchain value is one of the key factors for adoption. ABCD not only intends to train developers to service projects within the Cardano community but also provide technical assistance to local communities to solve inherent African problems on the Cardano blockchain by providing an ecosystem that enables blockchain startups to flourish.

We think that in order to promote and lead to the adoption of Cardano, we need to show everyday people that everything is possible. We will seek to show how useful applications can be developed and integrated into the ecosystem.

In particular, we seek to create applications for African users that are made by Africans, not just westerners. On a global scale, we believe that the success of Cardano can be measured by the people and for the people.

How Will ABCD Benefit Youth and the Unemployed?

ABCD ecosystem will enable youths, software engineers, developers and dreamers to kick-start a career in blockchain development, learn Blockchain related skills as well as apply that knowledge in building decentralized applications within Cardano.

    How Will ABCD Benefit Startups?

Start-ups can collaborate with both local and worldwide entrepreneurs to create partnerships, to meet the unique needs suppliers, and to secure capital. ABCD will help accelerate blockchain startup growth by providing office space and services, mentorship, expertise, influence, and access to capital.

All of this lowers the overhead and operating costs during critical formative years. A connection to ABCD will significantly increase visibility and presence of companies in the marketplace and advance their success potential.

How Will ABCD Benefit the African Community?

ABCD will create new employment opportunities in the blockchain space for Africans as well as create higher wage and higher skill jobs.

ABCD activities within the region and then the continent will enhance Africa’s image as a progressive, future-thinking place that encourages and supports technology business development.

ABCD will support the community and government in economic development, provision of skilled workers, and an increased tax base. We will provide increased visibility of host communities and improved entrepreneurship in the blockchain sector.

The ABCD Recruitment and training Process

One of the critical steps to guarantee the success of this project on the long term is the quality of recruitment.

We not only need to find brilliant young developers, we also need to ensure that they will stay within the training center for a period of 3-4 years.

To establish technical criteria, we will collaborate with the Project Catalyst team and determine the best onramps to the ABCD.

To start, we have already pre-selected 15 young developers including young talented women. These people will have a solid IT and dev background and are already operational to develop applications in several useful languages (Java, Javascript, Python, etc.). ABCD recruits will continue to learn Haskell, Plutus and Marlowe in order to be able to develop their first Dapp as soon as Goguen is available.

Regarding the materials and educators, we are in close contacts with Lars Brünjes and his team for materials. A 10 weeks Haskell course (including 4 weeks on Plutus and Marlowe) have been completed remotely (due to Covid-19) in Mongolia. Once ABCD actually has all its infrastructure ready and when IOG’s team is available virtual training sessions is feasible. We have also been in touch with John O’connor in Ethiopia where IOG has trained 20+ students in Haskell. We will work with them to create educational content based on our experience following the launch of ABCD and to organize remote training sessions

Proposed organizational structure for ABCD in Port Harcourt, Nigeria

    Staffing

In order to efficiently manage and run the ABCD, we will need a support team that maximizes the ability of our developers to dedicate themselves to “learning and coding”.

For that purpose, we plan to recruit the following roles:
    • Head of center
    • Secretary/receptionist
    • Security

The ABCD staff would oversee the day to day activities of the center as well as manage facilities. Subsequent increases in staff strength will depend on increases in workload and funding availability.

Longer term, the ABCD hopes to foster a blossoming network of professional developer teams throughout the African Continent.

Project director and lead coordinator will be Cardano Ambassador Joshua Akpan. Joshua is known throughout the Cardano Community for his leadership and coordination of Blockchain Meetups, host on The Cardano Community, AfroFinLab and POA Podcasts, boots on the ground, collaborator and advocate for Proof of Africa (POA), Cardano Shelley Summit 2020 Presenter, and Social Media Evangelist for Cardano.

    ABCD Venue

We have conducted prospects for finding ABCD’s offices (rental) and some interesting ones have been selected.

Among them, one on the Woji Road, GRA Phase 2, Port Harcourt, Rivers retains our attention.

This place will allow a team of up to 60 people with open offices, meeting rooms, conference rooms, etc. in a secure area.

Until ABCD reaches its critical size, offices and services will be sub-rented to other businesses.

    Long-Term Continuation Plan

Within the next 10 years, we intend to develop the project progressively increasing the number of attendees and then expand the initiative in other countries.

Long term activities of ABCD will be:

    Blockchain Training/Education

ABCD will train and enable entrepreneurs to launch a career in blockchain and Hyper-ledger Fabric and gain the essential knowledge and expertise to develop applications in enterprise environments.

We will also provide training for scholars, government agencies, corporate bodies, private firms and entrepreneurs that need to know and understand blockchain technology and the benefit of developing their applications on the Cardano ecosystem.

    Direct Business Development Assistance

ABCD will provide oversight and facilitate access to resources in order to stimulate sustainable MSME development by improving their general business environment.

    Professional Network and Relationship Support

ABCD will play an active role in developing links with resources that entrepreneurs might not otherwise have access to as small, emerging businesses.

ABCD is already developing a broad-based pool of high-quality professionals that have the technical and business skills needed to support client businesses.

    Educational/Awareness Programs

ABCD will build and maintain up-to-date information resources for technology start-ups as well as host on-site seminars, meet-ups, hackathons and other events of interest to technology start-ups.
    Facility-Based Services

ABCD will provide clients with appropriate rental space and flexible leases, shared business services and equipment, technology support services, and assistance necessary for company growth.

    Roadmap

To reach these ambitious but realistic objectives, we have created a plan to progressively extend our activities following several steps:

    Pilot phase (Year 1)

Test phase, opening of a permanent center in Nigeria for 15 full-time developers in order to test the format, content, level of the attendees to be able to create a tailor-made program to train and support our developers.

Phase 1 (Year 2 – 5)Replicate the pilot model at larger scale to allow more attendees to get trained.

We already developed a network of more than 50 African developers familiar with Cardano and passionate about the Blockchain ecosystem.

    Phase 2 (From year 3)

Replicate and expand the training model in different countries in Africa. We already have promising contacts with Abidjan university officials in Ivory Coast and with the Satoshi Centre in Botswana.

    Phase 3 (From year 5)

Opening of permanent centers across Africa applying the lessons learned from the Nigerian office.

    Simple budget and Financial Estimates

ABCD will kick-start operations from a pilot phase (first trimester) estimated at 450 000 ADA.

The estimate need by the end of 2021 is approximately 3 000 000 ADA.
This amount represents what is needed to fully run ABCD for a year hosting 15 developers and staff. This will be covered by both the projects our developers will work on as well as the kick-start funding we might benefit from.

This estimate takes into account the different costs :
    • Safety / Fire / Hazards

    Fund needed for one year

    Total costs for Y1 (pilot + 3 trimesters) : 270 600$

When the structure will have found its cruising altitude, we will gradually increase the number of developers we can host and pay. The structure fees will stay stable since the venue might allow us to host up to 60 developers.

    Other initiatives

Following the evolution and adoption of blockchain related projects we will seek additional funds within the Cardano community and beyond.

Within the Cardano space, we are already in close contact with IOHK. We work with them on educational content in order to stay aligned with their vision and to avoid overlap.

On the educational content, we also want to work more closely with Emurgo who already proposed high quality lessons around Cardano and the Blockchain.

We will continue to work closely with PoA team members that have experience in implementing sustainable development projects in Africa and who will use their contacts within International Institutions (i.e. EU, French Development Agency, GIZ, etc.) to gather more resources.

    Evaluation plan

In order to keep track of our progress, we would like to define with the team on what would be the most relevant indicators for evaluating the impact of our project (i.e. Number of attendees to training, papers produced, Dapps developed, Partnerships created, etc.).

We plan to provide the team/community counterparts with a detailed trimester activity report and 6 weeks brief updates.

At the end of each funding session, we will provide the Catalyst community with a detailed summary of all the costs incurred to verify our use of the funds and whether it matches the initial plan.

Moreover ABCD will be an important part of the economic development toolkit in Africa that would create new job opportunities for Africans, create higher wage jobs, better leverage training/educational materials from IOHK, contribute to the growth, success and adoption of blockchain technology businesses. These factors will provide the long-term metrics against which to measure the success of the Center.

    Relevant experience

We (ABCD’s team) want to contribute to the bootstrap of Cardano in Africa and deeply believe that it will afford African countries to diversify their economies and help the continent to increase its innovation and investment attractiveness.

As a beginning, we are currently organizing events to educate people about Cardano in Nigeria. Besides, with PoA we have created several guides which have been used by hundreds of Cardano community members to create their stakepools, and experiment on the Shelley Incentivized TestNet (ITN).

Our telegram channel regroups more than 350 members and our articles (on Twitter, Medium, Cardano Forum, Reddit and YouTube) have been read several thousands of times. Two members of PoA working in developing ABDC are already Cardano Ambassadors (Joshua Akpan and Maxime Desalle) and have been active in the Cardano community for more than a year.
Joshua Akpan, as a Cardano ambassador in Nigeria, has participated as a speaker to the Cardano Virtual Summit in the beginning of July 2020.

We are also technically robust since PoA runs in the ITN since December 2019 and have been selected as “Pioneer” in May 2020 among the 20 stakepools allowed to join in the Friends and Family Haskell TestNet.

    Cooperation with Proof of Africa

The training center aims at being an autonomous structure but since the founders are also involved in the Proof of Africa stake-pool project, we would like to continue to run the two projects in parallel. Our main ideas undertaking this cooperation are:
    • rewards generated by PoA could be used to develop ABCD’s activities,
    • PoA infrastructure (servers, relay nodes, etc.) might be made available to our developers for them to train and gain autonomy in running the Cardano network,
    • PoA would benefit from the activities developed by ABCD as a proof of its efficiency and reliability in creating real opportunities in Africa.

As a reminder, PoA is a stake-pool which attempts to represent Africa in the Cardano ecosystem. It can be thought of as a stake-pool-powered adoption driver based in Africa. This initiative is positioned to contribute to the adoption of Cardano in Africa and deeply believe that it will allow African countries to not only diversify their economies but also help the continent to increase its innovation and investment attractiveness.

    Dear community,

Following our proposal for Fund2 for which we received a lot of support from the community but couldn’t get the funding, we have decided to refine our proposal so that it better fits our needs in the field as well as the needs of the community: adoption in Africa.

To do so, we have reviewed some of our initial objectives, perhaps too ambitious, in order to arrive at a roadmap that is still ambitious but realistically achievable.

You will find below, a short description of the project. More detailed information is available in the attached documents.

The mission of the African Blockchain Center for Developers is to stimulate, thanks to Cardano adoption, the establishment and growth of technology-based start-up companies and other blockchain-enabled businesses.
By fulfilling this mission, ABCD will concretely contribute to:

    – Local job creation
    – Local business development
    – On-boarding to the global Cardano ecosystem
    – Contribute to the rise of blockchain technologies and decentralization in Africa
    – Creation of Smart contracts and decentralized applications (Dapps)
    – Address, thanks to decentralization, some of the most pressing issues in Africa (ID systems, land registration, blood donation, access to property, traceability, etc.)

Together with the Cardano Community and in particular with African entities such as Gimbalabs, WADA, IOG Africa and African SPOs, ABCD will create, develop and provide open source materials for new and emerging technology specializing in the development of core Cardano blockchain technologies and applications. In both the immediate and long terms, ABCD will facilitate enhanced economic health in Africa while promoting an encouraging adoption of Cardano and blockchain technologies throughout the continent.

The funds we are requesting have been calibrated to ensure minimal operation of the structure for the first cohort of developers while allowing the management team to develop the activity (supervision of trainees, partnerships, collaboration with other projects, delivery of our first Dapps, etc.).

Below is a description of costs and allocation of funds.

    Budget – Monthly costs :
    • Power – (Rental / Fuel / Elect. / Maint.) : 100$
    • Networks – (Rental / Subscription) : 50$
    • Facility – (Rental / Maint.) : 150$
    • Adhoc staff : 1 000$
    • Trainees salary (5 pers.) : 1 000$
    • Insurance : 100$
    • Miscellaneous : 100$

    ADA Epoch Clock

    from:

    Ideascale link

    Challenge question :

How do we increase engagement, user experience, functionality, decentralization, and simplicity within the Cardano ecosystem?

    Why is it important?

It is important for widespread adoption, ongoing network support, creating autonomy especially for the unbanked, and creating Cardano buzz!

    How does success look like?

Success looks like unbanked people being able to use their one-stop-shop ADA Epoch Clock! A portal that provides time, payment, wifi & more!

    Key Metrics to measure

There are many metrics to measure: Connectivity to the internet. Accurate readings of atomic time, ADA Epoch time, Block number, alternate time where the staking pool may be, and current price of ADA. Contactless payment usage. Hype and demand around the product. Energy production and use. Ease of use. Micro pool delegation, voting, and staking node. The way it has been seamlessly incorporated into everyday life as though it had always been there. Classic quality and a beautiful piece of art.

    Challenge brief

The challenge is to create the ADA Epoch Clock. This clock will revolutionize our day to day activities and for billions that are currently unbanked provide a way to be autonomous and take control of finances, assets, and voting. The main challenge is to fit all the core components of the clock into a compact, durable, and lightweight form. Part of the challenge is internet connectivity. Each clock will act as a receiver and booster for its local area. Each clock will have very small solar panels that can also provide enough power to charge devices such as cell phones.

Here are the features of the ADA Epoch Clock:

    * Standard Atomic Clock

    * Epoch Clock and Block Height

    * ADA Current Currency Price

    * Number of ADA in Circulation

    * At least one Photon Solar Cell (like Yanko Design or built in-house) or two or three to power clock and charge additional cell phones too – can have an AC plug to the wall too.

    * An appealing round orb with embossed Cardano logo and each of the six central circles has removable and upgradeable components to use as the blockchain evolves.

    * Each clock could also have a:

    – microstakepool – perhaps in microlaces 1/10 or 1/3 of a lovelace

    – Inbuilt Interoperable currency converter and tap payment function w inbuilt NFC tag reader

    – Inbuilt Daedalus wallet

These are some of the functional ideas for the ADA Epoch Clock.

  • ADA in 3055+ Bitcoin ATMs Globally!

    Problem statement :

You cannot currently buy Cardano ADA from any Bitcoin ATMs. Boinnex owns and operates a network of Bitcoin ATMs and wants to add Ada support

Describe your solution to the problem

We will integrate ADA into the General Bytes Bitcoin ATM software. We will do this by developing an extension for ADA in the software.

    Relevant experience

We own a growing network of Bitcoin ATMs. We also run the Cardano Abu stake pool and have actively been involved in Cardano since 2017.

    Website/GitHub repository (not required) https://boinnex.com/
Detailed plan (not required) – Fill in here any additional details

We use the General Bytes manufactured ATM machines and they have over 3055+ machines installed around the world. We’ve been in discussions for some time with IOHK, General Bytes, and Vaccumlabs about adding support and understand the technical requirements. Information here: https://github.com/GENERALBYTESCOM/batm_public/issues/241

    Scope of project:

ATM operators will be able to sell Ada and will have the following 2 buy strategy options in their system:

1 – Purchase coins from an Exchange and send them directly to a customer from the Exchange.

5 – Send coins to a customer from Exchange without purchase on Exchange.

To implement we will add an extension and commit it back to the public repository making the integration available to all ATMs globally.

There are sample integrations available inside this repo that are used in production

    https://github.com/GENERALBYTESCOM/batm_public

    Budget estimate

    1. The development estimate from Vaccumlabs is €5,000 euro ( including contingency) and can be delivered within 1 month
    2. This is an initial integration to allow all General Bytes ATM operators to sell Cardano through their machines though exchange integration ( Bittrex). Additional funds will be used for research and detailed technical specification of a Cardano hot wallet integration with Bitcoin ATM CAS software.

    Performance Benchmarks:

    1. Today Ada is available at No Bitcoin ATMs vs Ada is Available in over 3055 Bitcoin ATMs by December 2021. Once complete the code will be merged into the master repository and instantly available to all ATM Operators.
    2. Today, Zero Ada sold at Bitcoin ATMs vs Millions of Ada sold at over 1000 Bitcoin ATMs by June 2021. (Note: not all operators will choose to support Ada, but we conservatively estimate that over 1000 Bitcoin ATMs will have ADA support by June 2021.) In total there are 10,860 Crytpo ATMs. 7,393 offer altcoin support, working out at 68%. 6,389 offer ETH support, working out a 58%. Based on market cap and growth, we estimate Ada will have 20-30% support in General bytes machines working out at around 600-1000 machines initially. • ADA in CIS exchangers/online stores

    from:

    Ideascale link

    Problem statement :

Every user that spends $1000 on cryptocurrency purchases lost about $15-35 as a stock exchange commission https://imgur.com/a/Lk7oHga

Describe your solution to the problem

We need to convince each exchanger and online store to use ADA on their site. It’ll allow to SAVE $15-30 for every $1000 spent.

    Relevant experience

I had experience working in a call center of the bank (consultations, sales, and advertising of new products), so I can handle this task.

Detailed plan (not required) – Fill in here any additional details

The ADA purchase on exchangers should be affordable in CIS countries. Currently, every user that spends $1000 on cryptocurrency purchases lost about $15-35 as a stock exchange commission [ https://imgur.com/a/Lk7oHga ]. Using exchanges can help you to SAVE $15-30 for every $1000 spent [ https://imgur.com/nvM0IqJ ]. Also, despite the large commission, there are many different online stores that accept payment in bitcoins and ETH, but there is no way to pay for goods using ADA e.g. digit.com.ua.

    Why is it relevant:
About 236 million people live in the CIS countries [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commonwealth_of_Independent_States]. And those who use prevalent cryptocurrencies (bitcoin, etherium, Litecoin, Monero, etc) may not even know about the presence of ADA. Everyone who uses cryptocurrency in one way or another uses exchangers.
If there is an opportunity to purchase ADA in exchangers, it will be a good advertisement for those who did not know about it. But it will also be beneficial for existing users because they can save up to $30 for every $1000 spent ( https://imgur.com/a/PfUNk0D ). Therefore, potentially for the same amount of money, there will be an opportunity to purchase more ADA coins.

    Why is it important:
At the moment, there are about 100 altcoin exchangers in the Russian-speaking segment, where you can buy TRON, Stellar, ZCash, DogeCoin, Ripple, and others, but they do not have ADA. For example, https://365cash.co/ https://papa-change.com/ https://cashbank.pro/
The total coverage of exchangers is about 400-500 thousand views every day, about 13-14 million per month [ https://imgur.com/lF2YZpi or you can check here https://pr-cy.ru/site-statistics/?domain=bestchange.ru ]. These are people who buy / sell cryptocurrency and they will all be potential users of the ADA community. Now imagine that even 5% of those users will buy ADA for $1000. It will save them millions of dollars. And vice versa, it will be actual when the user wants to sell cryptocurrency.
Adding ADA to exchangers is relevant not only now, but also in the future when new people will connect to the Cardano system.
There are also stores that accept bitcoin as payment. For example, https://digit.com.ua/ https://asictrade.com/ . It would be great if people knew that it is possible to use an alternative cryptocurrency with a much lower commission.

Plan, how can we solve this problem:

    1. Need to find all currently available Russian-language exchangers and online stores that accept cryptocurrency as payment. Make a list. It will take about 1.5-2 weeks. Because I will need to research sites for all CIS countries.
    2. Contact the representative office of each site (by phone or by mail) and tell about the advantages of ADA coins over others, convince them to use ADA on their site. This stage will take about 1.5 – 2 months. It’s a high-level estimate because at first, I need the list of the sites.
Every week (or few days if needed) I’ll share my progress with the list of the sites that agree to add ADA to their site. It’s not an instant task for those sites. So, they will need some time to implement the new feature.
For the success of my project, there will be enough agreement on their side that they will add ADA.

    Key indicators to measure:

    • List of sites where you can use ADA as a payment
    • List of exchangers that add ADA to their site.

  • ADA MakerSpace – DEV lessons

    from:

    Ideascale link

    Problem statement :

Need new training videos for learning how to build with the Marlowe & Plutus playgrounds, some people learn better watching others do things

Describe your solution to the problem

ADA MakerSpace provides free video lessons for anyone interested in learning how to build things that will run on the Cardano blockchain

    Relevant experience

Since AUG192020 our channel has gotten 2,511 views, had Total Watch time of 258.4hours, and gained 225 Subscribers. 258hrs DEV lessons given

    Website/GitHub repository (not required) https://www.youtube.com/c/ADAMakerSpace
Detailed plan (not required) – Fill in here any additional details

Our podcast will test and build ideas with Plutus and Marlowe Playgrounds in an open-source online environment. ADA MakerSpace Podcast Series will help developers and entrepreneurs learn how to build Dapps and businesses on Cardano blockchain while watching others build their ideas. People watching will get real knowledge using the playgrounds and cool opportunities from being involved with our episodes. In addition during the episodes we will build Dapps and Smart Contracts for viewers that have submitted ideas.

Our lessons will be recorded live, and like Bob Ross would say “We don’t make mistakes, just happy little accidents” is our motto, and what we learn from testing things in the Playgrounds will be available for all to see. We will use some of the funding received to create bounties and giveaways for viewers of the podcast to solve errors seen, and for marketing to make sure videos reach a larger audience.

Our lessons would help bring in Haskell developers that have no experience with Plutus and Marlowe and show them how to get started building things on Cardano. Our lessons will also show non-developers how to use Blockly and the Playgrounds and how to think about smart contract design on Cardano without coding knowledge. At ADA MakerSpace Haskell DEVs will get hands-on paid to learn Plutus and Marlowe experiences, and entrepreneurs will get Dapps built that they may have not been able to fund or create by themselves.

ADA MakerSpace will be free to watch and lucky entrepreneurs who are tuning-in and completing bounties can get their ideas built by ADA MarkerSpace DEVs. And those that can afford development can sponsor an episode/s creating funding for the podcast and incubation of ideas built in the Cardano ecosystem.

    TIMELINE AND DELIVERABLES
    2 Lessons a week for 2 months = 16 Episodes
https://adamaker.space/ will house videos, code snippets, and opportunities to take part in a online accelerator for entrepreneurs selected to have their ideas built.
    BUDGET
    $3000 CO-HOST Haskell DEV a month ($375 an Episode) X2 = $6,000
    $3000 CO-HOST Front-end DEV a month ($375 an Episode) X2 = $6,000
    $800 monthly for prizes for viewers X2 = $1,600
$600 monthly advertising videos to reach more DEVs not familiar with Cardano’s tools X2 = $1,200
    Total $14,800
(If awarded SHOW BOUNTIES FUNDING FROM CH we will do for 4 months for a total of 32 Episodes)

    FUNDING REQUIREMENTS

With funding we would spend money on marketing efforts like Google search ADs for when people search for things like “how to build dApps” “how to create smart contracts” will target keyword phrases with and without the words “Cardano, Marlowe, and Plutus” so our ADs are seen by people who are looking to learn how to become a blockchain developer that have knowledge of Cardano and those that don’t. We use similar strategies of paid targeted advertising on social networks as well. In addition to bounties in ADA we offer viewers to share episodes.

Episodes will be free to watch on YouTube, and code created during them will go in to an open-source Github for anyone to use. Time is invested before recording planning episodes, during the recording of, after recording them to prepare them for upload, and share these videos. We are seeking Matching funds from CH Show Bounties Promotion As Seen On YouTube.

    BENEFITS TO CARDANO
Anyone will be able to use these lessons to learn to build on Cardano and get ideas of ways to use and design smart contracts in Marlowe Playground. Plus we will build ideas for our viewers and give ADA prizes for quests seen on the show. You will also be investing in improving the skills of the HOSTs of the podcast who will become some of your most dedicated builders in the ecosystem. And every lesson created will be marketing Cardano 24-7 on YouTube, and teaching others how to create things on Cardano blockchain with the Playgrounds and Blockly.
